How to estimate your WhatsApp costs

  1. 1

    Pick the country

Meta prices by the recipient’s country code. If you message several countries, run the calculator once per market.

  2. 2

    Enter monthly volumes

Split your expected template messages into Marketing, Utility and Authentication, and add your service replies and how many business numbers send them.

  3. 3

    Review the breakdown

See cost per category and the monthly and yearly total, with each number’s 1,000 free service messages applied.

Ways to lower your WhatsApp bill

Reply inside the window

Answer within 24 hours of the customer’s last message with free-form replies: the first 1,000 service messages per number each month are free, and the Service rate is far below Marketing.

Use the right category

Transactional updates belong in Utility templates, which cost far less than Marketing.

Target smaller audiences

Segmented, opted-in audiences cost less and get more replies than blasting your whole list.

Start with ads

Replying to a Click-to-WhatsApp ad opens a free entry point window: your messages are free for up to 7 days.

Send the messages you just priced

Know your costs? Send approved templates to opted-in audiences with WhatsApp Broadcasts. The Reach card shows the estimated Meta cost before every send.

WhatsApp API pricing FAQs

How WhatsApp Business Platform pricing works

How does WhatsApp API pricing work in 2026?
Since July 1, 2025, Meta charges per delivered message instead of per 24-hour conversation. The price depends on the category (Marketing, Utility, Authentication or Service) and the recipient’s country calling code. Free-form replies inside the 24-hour customer service window are service messages: since October 1, 2026, Meta gives each business phone number 1,000 free service messages per month, then charges a per-market service rate.
Are utility messages ever free?
Only inside a free entry point window. Since October 1, 2026, Meta charges Utility templates at the Utility rate even when a customer service window is open; they are free only in a free entry point window opened from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad. Utility and Authentication messages also get volume-based discounts in many markets once you pass certain monthly thresholds.
What is free on WhatsApp?
As of October 2026, two things: the first 1,000 service messages (replies inside the 24-hour customer service window) per business phone number each month, and every Marketing, Utility, Authentication and service message in a free entry point window, which opens when you reply to a customer who messaged you from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad and stays open for up to 7 days. Messages customers send you are never charged.
Who bills the WhatsApp message fees?
Meta. With Social Intents, message fees are billed by Meta to your own WhatsApp Business Account using the payment method you add in Meta Business Manager. Your Social Intents subscription is separate and has no per-message markup.
Why does the calculator show $0 for US marketing messages?
Meta paused delivery of Marketing templates to US phone numbers on April 1, 2025, and as of October 2026 it has not resumed. Undelivered messages aren’t charged, but they also don’t reach anyone, so the calculator leaves them out. See what still works.
How accurate are these estimates?
They use Meta’s published list rates in USD as of October 2026. Meta updates rates periodically, bills some businesses in other currencies, and applies volume tiers to Utility and Authentication, so treat the result as a budgeting estimate and confirm on Meta’s pricing page.
